Reflective summary

I think this half of the year has included some of my favourite projects and least favourites. I was really happy to dive into the marketing side of the course. I've never done projects that consist of that and I found I enjoyed pitching different potential marketing strategies for Ralph Lauren as well as understanding the brand more as it is one of my favourites. I liked the idea of proposing a sustainable promotional asset and learning more about materials such as bamboo and how we could even use it as a more sustainable and ethical way to produce clothing. I wasn't 100% on whether I would stick with Marketing or move to the communications side but after that project, I felt it was obvious to stick with marketing and business.

Before we did the magazine project I thought I'd love to work as a group but it turned out to be quite difficult. There was already a friendship group within it so it made it somewhat harder for the rest of us to input our ideas and when we did they would often go unnoticed at the start. We struggled a lot with the lack of people turning up when sometimes there were just 3 of us there and at times we were bad at communicating with each other. By the end of the magazine, I felt comfortable sharing my ideas and enjoyed watching our vision come to life and I think those of us who were present started to love the project. However, I think I work better more independently as I enjoyed the supporting document, especially as there was no word count so I didn't feel too tied down to one. I loved most researching different fashion photographers like Guy Bourdin, their life stories and the unique techniques they use. I think overall it has been a learning curve but I know I have developed lots of skills that I can take away with me in the industry.

I found having to deliver a pitch very daunting but it was definitely what brought the group together and I was proud of it in the end and I feel more confident with the idea of doing more pitches next year.

I've noticed that I enjoy the design aspect of the magazine and tried to incorporate that with the rest of my projects near the end. Over the summer I'm going to work on graphic design and take some online courses in Photoshop and Illustrator. As well as this I'm going to try and improve my fashion illustration and use the skills I learn from Illustrator and Photoshop to make digital illustrations. I've found that I've gotten the hang of Indesign more than I had in the first half of the year and I'm excited to continue learning more.
